White Salmon Guitar Company

Craig T. Wilson, Luthier

"The old lute makers had a cosmological approach to life and therefore to building. This appreciation of the interrelatedness of things was a basic motivation for them to use the geometrical models and numerological relationships that they did."
Luthier, Robert Lundberg

Welcome to the White Salmon Guitar Co. It is my belief that the greatest work is a product of collaboration and that the measure of success in the art of lutherie is the degree to which an individual musician can find his or her voice on the instrument. The White Salmon Guitar Co. is small by design. Instruments are built on commission and are a direct result of consultation with my clients.

I have chosen lutherie not just as a career but as a "discipline for self-realization" and an opportunity to focus attention on something both valid and necessary. As our society becomes more fixated on speed and productivity, the need to preserve traditional skills and craftsmanship is more important than ever. I derive my inspiration from the unique nature of the woods I work with and a deep respect for the craftsmen who have come before me. I have no desire to re-invent the wheel; all my designs are historically influenced. Aesthetics are an important part of the design process, but tone and playability are paramount.

It gives me great pleasure to imagine my instruments making music long after I am gone. Because of this I build my guitars to last, using the finest aged tone woods available. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.
